Curaçao: An Island of Gay-friendliness in the Caribbean
Much of the Caribbean has a deservedly gay-unfriendly reputation. Take
Jamaica--please. You’ve probably heard the stories of gay bashings or gay
cruises being met with hostility in other tropical island destinations, but
you’ll find the opposite climate exists in the Dutch Antilles Island of Curaçao
(pronounced Cure-a-sow) where gay cruises and gay tourists are greeted by
rainbow flags displayed along the island nation's downtown streets.

relative. Jamaica is cut from the same cloth as the United States, born
from the same culture, and shaped by the same religious influences and
attitudes. We have a way to go on Jamaica, but I don’t think we should
